The Police Parade is always a fun and meaningful time where area residents come out and honor area local law enforcement. However this is one of those special years where the Mummers String Band join the festivies from their homebase of Philadelphia.

Officially the parade is known as the 25th Aquidneck Island National Police Parade. It starts Sunday at 11:50 a.m. near the Hampton Inn on West Main Road in Middletown and ends at Broadway and Mann Avenue near the Newport police station. The parade goes off rain or shine.

The Newport Folk Festival announced their line up for the weekend dates of the August 1-3 festival taking place at Fort Adams.

The shocker was that the headline acts, Jimmy Buffet and The Black Crowes, seem so far from the Folk Festival tradition.

Newport has never been mistaken for the beaches of South Florida or the Caribbean, but there has been an increase of traffic around town even though Easter fell a little early this year.

Sorry it has been so long since we made our last update. Around Newport this time of year that is acceptable for other businesses, but not for us. It has been a big month including a house sale and a full move into a smaller new home. If you have ever done the downsize move you know it is not easy. Somewhere in there I think we lost our focus on the Patriots and in turn they lost their perfect season, so we can only do what we know best --- look ahead to baseball and summer.
